The summit plateau of High Raise always seems to be full of air and light. It is all billowing cloudscapes and a vast sense of space. Living in an enclosed valley, as we do, can be slightly claustraphobic at times; so when cobwebs need to be blown away, we head for High Raise. On this afternoon the clouds were slowly beginning to thin, allowing sunshafts to break through; touching the summit of Esk Pike and sparking silver from one of the tarns on Stake Pass.
